On October 30, 2024, the CYBERUNITY Demonstration event, entitled “Advancing Security through Federated Cyber Range,” successfully gathered experts and cybersecurity professionals for a day of insightful discussions and practical demonstrations.
The event started with an opening speech by Prof. Stavros Stavrou, Rector of the Open University of Cyprus and External Advisory Board Member of CYBERUNITY, who emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in the field of cybersecurity.
Throughout the day, participants attended a series of engaging presentations and demonstrations. Prof. Georgios Spathoulas from NTNU provided a comprehensive overview of the CYBERUNITY DEP Project, detailing its mission, progress, and future directions. Dr. Chhagan Lal, cybersecurity researcher at NTNU, then introduced the audience to the architecture and initial use cases of CYBERUNITY, showcasing its real-world applicability.
Among the highlights were live demonstrations of cyber ranges from NTNU and AIT, led by Dr. Chhagan Lal and Oliver Jung, respectively. The sessions offered attendees an immersive experience into the functionality and capabilities of federated cyber ranges.
In the latter part of the event, speakers shared valuable insights from major European cybersecurity projects, including CyberSec4Europe and the CONCORDIA Project. Contributions from David Goodman of Digital Life Association and Prof. Sotirios Ioannidis from the Technical University of Crete underscored the value of collaborative research in addressing Europe’s cybersecurity challenges.
Further presentations explored the latest initiatives to strengthen cybersecurity networks and resilience, with Dr. Eliana Stavrou from the Open University of Cyprus presenting the SecAwarenessTruss project and Dr. Alexandru Georgescu of ICI Bucharest introducing CYBERSRANGE. The event concluded with a hands-on cyber exercise based on the “Wizard Spider” scenario, led by George Nicolaou,.
On behalf of the CYBERUNITY project we extend our gratitude to all speakers, participants, and supporting organizations for contributing to the event’s success, fostering innovation and collaboration in the cybersecurity community.
